The United Way was founded in 1887, which makes 2012 its 125th year of being an organization committed to helping communities. Their mission is as follows:
United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good.
Its legacy started in Denver, CO, and by 1948 over 1,000 communities had joined the United Way family.
United Way partnered with the National Football League (read more here) in 1973, a nearly 40 year old partnership!
By 1974, United Way spread its vision and mission internationally.
In 1996, United Way took over cyberspace by creating and launching websites for local UW Organizations and one for the general public.
United Way aided with such events as the September 11th attacks, the South Asian tsunami, Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, and others.
In 2008, UW launched their latest campaign, LIVE UNITED, to help achieve goals focused on education, income, and health.
